Medications


Anti-seizure medications: calm overactive nerves, i.e. gabapentin, Lyrica, Topamax

Anti-depressants: aid body’s own pain fighting system work more effectively, i.e. nortriptyline, Cymbalta

Local anesthetics: temporarily shut down pain nerves, i.e. Lidoderm patch, lidocaine cream

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs): block certain chemicals that cause pain, i.e. ibuprofen, naprosyn, meloxicam, and others

Acetaminophen: may elevate pain threshold, i.e. Tylenol

Topical Creams: deplete pain chemicals in a localized area, i.e. capsaicin, Icy Hot, Bengay, and others
